Windsong 1 of Top 10 Horse Comebacks of 2013
Windsong was a senior, 25 year old, mare that came to us in poor condition. Through improved
nutrition, dental and good daily care she blossomed into a handsome senior and was adopted on September 7, 2013 to a wonderful,
loving home.
Windsong was 1 of 2 horses
we used to support the grant we received from a collation between Petfinder and
Tractor Supply this summer. The top 10
horses were selected from all across the country. Our volunteer, Abby, spent untold hours working on Windsong's
rain rot and nurturing her into the beautiful mare she became. Magnum was the other horse and he ended up being
adopted on October 21, 2013 to a friend of Windsong's owner and both horses are now living together "happily ever
after".
From
Windsong's owner 12/29/13 - "It makes me so proud of wind song and how far we
have come together she truly is a doll. Her and mags (Magnum) are so
good
together we rode yesterday and today they will get a good spoiled day of
grooming and love. .thank you so much and to Doxy's for all they do
without them no one would ever know the true love that these forgotten
horses have to share with us! !"
Survey
Results
.Surveys are routinely sent out on an ongoing basis about 2 months
after each adoption.
As a public charity dedicated to recovering and re-homing horses it is important for
customers to tell us about their experience to see what we do well and what we need to do better. To all who return their surveys, we thank you for your input and positive remarks.
Quotes from the Horse Owners' Mouths
"I love my horse Magnum. I know Mike had a hard time letting him go. But, rest assured,
I needed Magnum in my life and he needed me. I treat him like a "normal" horse and he gives me 100%. People cannot
believe I have only had him since October 2013. They do not notice he has any vision problem. When people see
me ride him they cannot understand how I ever got him from a rescue. He is handsome, calm and well mannered. I
will never be able to thank Marilyn and Mike enough for the love and joy they have given me. I tell everyone looking
for a horse to go to Doxy's first.
I found Doxy's for
a friend, she adopted and when my beloved horse had to go to heaven, I went right to Doxy's. Many people tried to have
me purchase one of their horses but they had forever homes. I knew in my heart I needed to visit Doxy's to fill my void.
I tell myself, family and friends I am blessed to have Magnum in my life. If not for him I may have never rode a horse
again after I put my beloved Sierra down. Thank you." . . . Margie adopted Magnum
October 21, 2013
"I love them all!" . . . Christie and Matt, adopted Rocket October
19, 2013 and gave Sweetie Boy his new home.
"Keep doing what you do! Your work is amazing!" . . . Brenna,
adopted Sable July 14, 2013
"I think you guys are great! You treat the horses well and it shows! Blue is the most wonderful
horse. He's my best friend!! I'll be back for another!" . . . Andrea, adopted
Blue May 26, 2013
"I love my horse, Fortune. He's a great boy and he loves his new home. I just took photos
and plan to upload a few to put something on line." . . . Lisa adopted Fortune May 20, 2013

Actually I was looking on
Petfinder and also surfing the web when I came across the ad for Button.
We were looking for a small horse/pony that would be good for my daughter that
at the time was 6 and was just beginning to learn how to ride. There were
actually 2 ponies that I was interested in and called on both (one of which was
Button). I spoke to the lady on the other horse and that was only after I
left a message and then called her back as she did not return my call.
When I was talking to her I decided that we did not want to even look at her
pony as was not happy with the conversation that we had and I just had bad
vibes. I also called Marilyn on the same day of which she called me right
back and answered all my questions that I had concerning Button. At that
time I set up an appointment to come and meet Button and see if she was what we
were looking for. When we arrived we were greeted wonderfully and made to
feel like we were welcome but also Marilyn and Mike made sure that we were
right for Button as well. They did not hurry us up and told us what
Button needed (lounging for a couple of minutes) before we just hopped on and
went for a ride. They did not try to hide anything or make the pony
something that she was not just to get her adopted. I really appreciated
that and would like to tell anyone that if they are looking for a
horse/pony/mule to come there and look because what you see truly is what you
will get even when you take them home. The horses do not
"change" when you get them home and actually feed them like some of
the other places that I have adopted horses from. They seem really mellow
but that is because they are not feed properly and have no energy until you get
them home and feed them the proper way. Then you truly know what they
are. With Doxy's horses they are feed and taken care of really well so
that you know that once they come home to live with you they truly are
wonderful horses just like what you seen there.
I would recommend Doxy's
Horse Rescue to anyone looking for a horse.
You folks are great and it is
nice to know that you are there to help horses that people are just tired of
taking care of and no longer want (and don't care what happens to them).

I can truly say that I have
learned my lesson and will not get another horse from anyone else but
Doxy's. You folks do not only care about the horse but REALLY want to
make sure that the horse that someone may be looking at is a true fit for
not only for the person but the person for the horse. Not like other
people that only care about the money and don't really care about the horse or
if the person is in danger of getting hurt on that horse. I can truely
say this as I have adopted 2 other horses from other people that were only
interested in the money and not the horse or whether we can use or if we would
get hurt. All they cared about is that they no longer had to worry about
the (bills) on the horse.
We currently have a pony and
TBB horse that are taking up room but we will not get rid of as that is not
what we do and I am afraid that if someone else gets them then they will not be
taken care of the way they should be or that they may be abused. We have
actually got them so they actually look like a horse/pony and not sickly
anymore. O well live and learn.
Unfortunately some lessons
learned cost money but at least they have a forever home where we will try and
work with them so that they come around and we know that they will never have
to be abused or starved.
. . . Beth, adopted Pepper June 29,

Just reporting
in on Sam........he is still PERFECT! I am so happy we
found Doxy's.....and Sam. You are running one of the most legitimate
"rescues" I have ever found. You are doing great things and I
am happy to recommend Doxy's to others. .
. . Judy, adopted Sam April 27, 2013
“I love my Tonto so much
even though at times he still has a bit of an attitude, he just needs a lot of
TLC which he gets from me daily. Thank goodness Mike from Doxy's Horse Recovery
rescued him from the kill pen, otherwise he would have been headed to slaughter.
Anyone considering a horse please adopt from a rescue, there are so many
wonderful horses that need homes that don't make it.” . . . Linda, adopted Tonto January 25,
2013
"You do a very good job of accessing horses and allowing adopters to make several visit to interact with
them. I am very happy with Delilah. I was given a very clear evaluation of her and she has become a welcome member
of my family here."
. . . Barb, adopted Delilah December 1, 2012
"Juliet, now known as Lena, is doing great. Lena and my
other mare are getting along fantastic! The two horses are finally home at our house. We have stalls built for
them in case weather is bad or one gets injured and needs stall rest. Other than that the girls enjoy their time outside.
I am glad I adopted from Doxy's. I love that you guys take your time and put it into these wonderful animals and give
them the care and attention they need and deserve. It was a wonderful experience!"
. . . Brianna, adopted Lena (Juliet) September 21, 2012
"I am actually considering (adopting) this spring! I adopted Tucker and am still ecstatic about him.
Every horse I tried at Doxy's was well broke and very well behaved. Tucker was the one that really clicked for me.
All the horses were very well taken care of. They were provided every vet, dental, feed, hoof trimming, exercise and
any other care necessary. Once I heard about Doxy's I "accidentally" stumbled upon your website while searching for
other horses. I began to see your advertisements everywhere! I have no criticisms or complaints and highly recommend
Doxy's to everyone searching for a horse."
. . . Louise, adopted Tucker September 2, 2012
"I 'm so glad you guys saved Levi from the kill pen. He
is such a great horse and deserved better. Thanks for giving him a second chance! You guys are awesome!"
. . . Kim, adopted Levi September 1, 2012
"Lena
(aka Juliet) is all settled into her new home. I am so happy with her and shes a great addition to the family. I've
never been around a horse that learns as quickly as she does. She is so sweet, and willing. She does whatever I ask.
I could not have asked for a better horse. I love her so much!!! Thank you so much for letting me adopt her!"
. . . Brianna, adopted
Juliet (now Lena) Septebmer 21, 2012
"I love Tucker so much! He has been so great and is doing everything
I was looking for in a horse! I take him almost every night on trails and out to the pasture to go and get our cows and bring
them back to the barn to milk. My seven year old cousin loves to ride but never has and I put her up on Tucker and took her
for a walk and he was so great! I am so happy with him and can't tell you guys how awesome he is and how happy I am with him.
Everytime someone asks where I got him or tells me they are looking for a horse I recommend you!"
. . . Louise, adopted Tucker September 2, 2012
"Rockelle is doing great!! I love her!! I go up to the stable I board her
at almost every day and ride. My whole family has ridden her and my friends also love riding her! We have been taking her
on the trails and just riding her for fun inside and outside. All over, she is a great horse and I am so happy I picked her!"
. . . Lexi, adopted Rockelle July 16, 2012
"I love Ginger and feel good to be able to offer her the best home I can
make for her".
. . . Lynn, adopted Ginger, aka Lizzie Tish June 17, 2012
"I just wanted to let you know that Sheba has settled right in. She's
already buddied up with her horsey friends and is very content. Andrew just loves her. He and I rode in the pasture
last night. He fell instantly in love with her. Thank you again for this beautiful horse." Update from returned
survey: "Everything was and is still great. We had a terrific experience and love Sheba. I would definitely
come back if I was shopping for another horse."
. . . Francine Spagnuolo, adopted Queen of Sheba May 26, 2012
Although Heather didn't give us a comment about Boots, she rated Doxy's
a top notch experience, giving us an excellent score in all areas.

to a trainer this spring , enjoying watching Arabella grow. You guys are doing a great job with all the horses giving
them a second chance in life - keep up the good work."

"I believe all the attention/handling (love) that China received by you
is what has made her the loveable and easy to handle horse she is."
. . . Lora, adopted China July 17, 2011
"I'm a volunteer and love being there. Amber still resides at Doxy's
as you know. Would love to take her home to make room for another horse but have no room at home."
. . . Barb adopted Amber June 4, 2011
"Sam was the perfect fit for me, even when everyone was a little dubious
at first. But we've worked together and have created something very special. I've always wanted to try jumping
and possibly eventing in the future but never had the horse for it. I met Sam and knew he was perfect. Little
did I know just how perfect. This year we've competed in 2 horse shows in hunter classes, trained with a top dressage
trainer and then competed in 2 hunter paces, 10 miles with 2 and 3 foot jumps. He loves it and so do I! I never
look back and regret adopting this horse and I never will. Thank you Doxy's for finding this horse and letting me take
him to his forever home with me!"
. . . Cori adopted Sam July 17, 2010
"Wonderful care. Comfortable knowing that we can call for any quetions

Niko and Sharon celebrating their 1st week anniversary together with a gentle ride. They look great
together!
Niko fits right in at his new home in Long Island. He loves his stall and pasture, Charlie,
the handsome buckskin guy, and of course Sharon.
"Pepper
is such a good boy. We love him very much. I have attached some
pictures of him with his new attire on.
I
really need to take a video of Charlotte on Pepper so that you can see
her. She really has gained alot of confidence riding on him. She
hardly walks with him anymore just trots all around. We even set up an
obstacle course for them to ride around. Believe it or not we even got
Pepper to back up with Charlotte on his back. She asks for a back and he
does. It is amazing to see just how far she has come with him. I wished that you guys lived closer so that you
could come over
and see how they are doing." Pepper is a FAMILY with his girl Charlotte, her brother Mark, and her mom and dad, Beth
and Tom. What a guy!!
He (Fortune) is great- that's for sure. He is such a good
boy. I am enjoying him and he is surely enjoying his new buddies here.

2013 Update: "Hey guys! Figured I'd give you an update on Apollo. He is doing
great! he filled out really nice and is getting quite the belly on him haha, he has also built a lot of muscle compared to
when we first got him. He loves going on long trail rides with his buddy Dancer and loves water! He loves bathes and playing
in creeks! Every time we head towards the fence we don't even have to whistle and Apollo starts whinnying for us. He is so
laid back and relaxed, not much scares him, and he loves giving the kids pony rides. Oh and his favorite treats are peppermint
flavored :) I will send new
pictures of him!"
Re-introducing Brodie and Prince Charmer, now known only as Charm, who were adopted by Lynda in PA almost
one year ago. Her boys have a wonderful home and she loves them to pieces. This is what Doxy's is all about, teaming
up good (great) horses with good (great) people!!
Linda calls him her Tonto but we'd like to change that to Tonto's Linda, a wonderful love affair from
the start. Tonto and Linda are learning all about riding, loving each other and, can't forget, Tonto has a new best
buddy named Scout.
February 11, 2013 “We are so happy to have
Apollo as our new addition! He is so easy going and laid back, he craves attention
and even though he gets along with anybody he and John already have a special bond, everyday they learn a little more about
each other.
His body is starting to fill out very nicely with weight and muscle, we cannot wait for winter to be
over so we can give him a bath and see his beautiful black summer coat. Dancer(my horse) and he are best buddies and hate
to be apart, they also have two little barn cat buddies.
We are teaching Apollo to neck rein and he is picking it up very quickly..In the pictures he is wearing
his very own tack set that John picked out himself and pieced together. so spoiled! Hope
you enjoy the pictures!!”

Is this a winter greeting card setting or what? Andrew is riding Sheba who was adopted in
May 2012 and Francine is riding her Shy Ann with their gorgeous dog in the foreground. Thanks for passing this on to
us - December 2012
Hey everyone! This is Cori, I adopted Sampson from you guys (October
2012), and thought you should have an update. :) He's doing GREAT. He still has a sassy little attitude, but he's been
learning so much about manners and actually respecting people on the ground. We've been showing some this year, and did pretty
well. We even got reserve champion in dressage at the chemung county fair in August against quite a few other riders! I attached
some pictures from this year so you can see how he's doing. It's amazing how far we've come in these past couple years. Next
year, I'm planning on focusing mainly on dressage, and seeing if we can start schooling at 1st level, and possibly 2nd level
if he does well. He certainly has the talent for it, but we just have to focus it a bit. Thank you again so much for bringing
us together, he's my entire world! -Cori and Sam

This beautiful collage of China, now know as Bailey, was sent to us November 16, 2012. Bailey was
just a little filly when adopted in November 2012. She has become a beautiful riding horse and loved by her owner, Lora
who said, "She is doing great. She is extremely intelligent and so mild mannered. We are now riding and just did our
first canter last weekend. Hope to finish her off in the spring and hit the trails."

From
Anna who owns Zion Farms and adopted Pegasus on March 17, 2011 - "Peggy's first show with us. She competed in Western pleasure
& equitation and the trail class." Peggy is in the foreground with Lian, Anna's daughter, riding.
Boots was adopted by Heather, a woman from Oswego County, on May 13, 2012 and shared these pictures of her
Mexican mustang and his buddy eating in their run in.
